There's a German poem called Die Lorelei that pretty much sums this up.
Although you upped the awesome factor with the hologram-projecting octo-cyclops that hangs out in a whirlpool in the middle of the volcanic Kuril Island chain.
Not sure how that'd translate into Deutsch - we should ask Julian.
